You can help keep CAC's  family friendly events free for families!

You may have participated in county wide public needs assessment surveys that the Children's Advisory Commission helped to conduct in 2002, 2007, and 2012. Indiana County residents like you have consistently agreed that the availability of free or low cost family recreational opportunities is a high priority.

Family Fun Fest, Family Nature Palooza, and Day of Play continue to meet the need! If you've been to any of these events, you know they are well attended, highly anticipated, events for children and families in our county. There is no cost, or low cost for the families to attend. Day of Play charges $1 per person with a cap of $5 per family, this helps to pay for the rental of the giant inflatables that are the signature attraction for Day of Play. Nature Palooza, in the past has charged $5 per family to cover the costs of give-away items and educational presentations (for 2017 it will be free to attend.) Family Fun Fest, going into it's 15th year, is free to attend. There are small fees charged to the groups that have tables set up at Fun Fest (starting at $30 per table). These fees have helped to pay for stage presentations from the Carnegie Science Center, Pittsburg Zoo and professional entertainment (magician David Lawrence at this year's Fun Fest.)

Thousands have participated in CAC sponsored events in the last 14 years.

Countless SMILES have occurred!

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT? Family bonding is the bedrock of the relationship between parents and children. Research has shown that "A child's relationship with a consistent, caring adult in the early years is associated later in life with better academic grades, healthier behaviors, more positive peer interactions, and an increased ability to cope with stress." (Child Welfare Information Gateway.) Through the CAC events, opportunities are made available to enhance this bonding. There are families in our county who may never be able to afford a trip to Pittsburgh to visit the Carnegie Science Center, or to make memories by enjoying a day at the zoo, or to budget the fees for an hour worth of time for a bounce house.

We are asking for your help to bring a part of that experience to them! The budget to conduct these events includes rental fees, entertainment fees or stipends, advertising costs, and supplies. The State grant funding that supported these events ended in 2012. We rely on small local grant opportunities, local support, local sponsorship, and donations to continue Family Fun Fest, Family Nature Palooza, and Day of Play. (NOTE: CAC staff salaries do NOT utilize donated funds.) On average, it costs about $3,000 for each of these events.

Please consider donating. You can keep those smiles coming!
